Hey guys im finally starting to get my rig together and after countless hours on this awsome forum i still have a few questions. First lemme tell u about my rig. Im runnin SP-c4>Digi Ua5>JB3. Ill be taping in a very small venue for the most part. small stage but very loud room. i will also tape some bigger shows in the summer.
ok first question what mic setup should i use?
I was also curious about the hight of the stand. ill be open taping the venue and the bands are cool with it so i can go as high as need be but i do not know how high i should be. (im sure i just confused some stoners) i havnt bought a stand yet so lemme know about the hight.
thanks guys much thanks

The C4s come with cardioid and omni caps, right? You won't know what config works best for your ears until you try them. I usually default to cards DIN if I'm not familiar with the room. I'd try DIN, ORTF, spaced and/or baffled omnis and maybe even AB and see which you prefer. Get a baseline for how the different caps sound in different configs, listen to see which you prefer, and then customize accordingly (e.g. reduce the included angle, widen the spacing, etc.).

I've read somewhere around here, possible the SP team board, that people have had the best results w/ the C4 cards running XY... I've been running DIN since I picked my C4's up and have been happy w/ the results but I just recently mickey-moused a riser to start running XY... I haven't tried XY yet, but I'll tell you what I think, once I have...
I hope that helps, probably doesn't, but you never know...

Some think that X/Y doesn't provide the soundstage or separation that DIN does. I think it depends on the room and source. X/Y can sound very nice in the right room, in the right location with the right source to record.
