FWIW:
The MT ist built upon a PortalPlayer PP5020 Processor.
It is the same as in Iriver H10, Fourth Generation iPods, iPod Mini, color iPod, U2 iPods and iPod Photo.

At least i think so, since there is a PortalPlayer logo on the shipping box and the flash images/firmwares are called PP5020.ari.
There are currently two openSource projects which where succesful in booting a Linux on PP5020 based MP3 players:

Protection against uploading alternative firmwares. See the wiki article I linked to.

Well Rockbox does have a working version for 4th,5th Gen and Nano iPods. :P
