Title: New to the taping world...have some questions
Post by: bertawicks on February 28, 2006, 05:27:31 PM
Good evening everyone,

I have recently purchased a Sony RZ-10 minidisc player and I have two of the Sony one point stereo microphones, model # ECM-MS907.  Now i bought a splitter from Radio Shack but whenever I attempt to plug the splitter in with both microphones attatched, the sound only comes in the left side.  I've gotten some decent recordings with just one microphone but I know from reading what has been said, and what I know nothing about, that there is stuff that can help me do better.  Would somebody, at least, tell me how to get my machine to record in stereo?  Thanks for all your help!

Bert

Aren't all of the Sony ECM mics stereo to begin with?  Look at the 1/8" plug on the end of the mic... is it a stereo plug or a mono plug?

I don't think MD can handle multitrack  >:D

One stereo microphone is really two microphones enclosed in one case. Usually they are mounted one over the other at 90 degrees.

is there a minidisc recorder that will employ both stereo microphones?  Is there one out there or do i have to purchase something more sophisticated?

no - 2 stereo mics = 4 channels
yes, you would need a four track recorder.

one mic should do the trick, and it will be in stereo (since your mic is a STEREO mic [contains two elements]) one of these mics will make a stereo recording.
