Title: Help me with files on Microtrack
Post by: pierreb on March 02, 2006, 05:31:54 PM
Hello All,

Currently runnning 1.2.3 and have a question. When recording material, files are automatically named for me. What I did then was rename the files to more meaningfull names however the file order on the MT no longer make sense as all files listed randomly. Is there a secret that I need to know in order to order the files on the MT the way I want to?

I would imagine the order follows as all files do..  meaning you would have to add a number to the end of the filename to have the file where you want it..

ie:

ThisTuneRocks01
ThisTuneSucks02
DonnaTheBuffaloSucks03
NeumannsRuleYourFace04

and so on..

you can also check out this page..  http://wiki.etree.org/index.php?page=NamingStandards (http://wiki.etree.org/index.php?page=NamingStandards)
...which will demonstrate how filesets should be named in order to keep files organized and user friendly..

as for a "trick" with the MT2496, I dont know any that pertains, even though I have used one a few times..

I hope this helps....

There is something else going. I have 13 files on the MT and renamed them all startting with file01.wav, file02.wav...File13.wav

Yet File03.wav is always the first in the list on the MT? The mystery remains?

I think I have an explanation. Basically, the order of the files being presented on the MT follows the order of the files copied from the PC back to the MT. Basically copy all files to the PC, manipulate, rename whatever then clear the files off the CF card. Copy the files back from PC to the MT in the order you wish to have them displayed on the MT.

you dont have to transfer them to the puter to change the names, just change them with the MT hooked up to the puter and dismount the MT, the names will be changed

you dont have to transfer them to the puter to change the names, just change them with the MT hooked up to the puter and dismount the MT, the names will be changed

And while you've got the MicroTrack hooked to the computer, you might go grab the new firmware that just came out today (1.3.3).

You can see it here (there's a Mac friendly and a PC friendly download, one's on a Mac disk image, one's in a zip file).

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.drivers

Pretty hefty list of changes

Auto split after 2GB
mono recording (WAV and MP3)
fixes loss of file when media full
fixed the whole larger than 4GB media / dummy file issue

Those are just the top things I noticed of interest.

IN my case it is not just a question of renaming the files but the sort order as well. Perhaps 1.3.3?

Perhaps, in the future if they could add a playlist feature then I could decide the order of the files being played.

:D Here's another technic I have used in order to have a given wanted file sort order. I created a subFolder off the root of the card, renamed the files and moved the files one by one in the subfolder in the order wanted and all is well. Was using 1.3.3

Thanks for the inputs  ;D
