Title: Correcting pitch in Wavelab

Issue:  A friend of mine gave me an analog that he had made a decade ago of a now out of print LP. He wants me to transfer it to CD. I use the following:  Sony TC-WR550Z tape deck > RCA > Oade mod-SBM-1 @ 44.1 KHz > coax > Audiophile 2496 > Wavelab 5.

The problem:  Upon playback, I notice that a god bit of the higher pitched guitars are out of pitch - aka tape "warble"

Solution:  ???

ps. I have never used the "pitch correction" feature in Wavelab.

Are you saying that that tape is playing too fast/slow?  Is it a speed issue?

It could be a speed issue. Most of the audible issues appear during the higher pitched segments (ie. guitar solos, etc).

I've also considered that its the fact that the deck that I am using is different than the one originally used to record.

for it to be pitchy, I would say it sounds like speed to me.  In which case, Time compression or Expansion might be necessary to make things sound right.  Since you are working from cassette, you should also use a deck with azimuth adjustment.  Azimuth wouldn't affect pitch per se, but will make a world of difference in your recording.
