does anybody know a good alternative to the expensive neumann cherry wooden boxes??
-
I keep mine in a Neumann TLM103 flight case, along with the shock mounts, swivel mounts and screens. Case is foam cutout for 103's, but the molded blocks lift out to reveal a cutout inside that fits the U89 perfectly.
Unfortunately, you cannot buy the molded foam inserts for the U89's separately... >:(

can you buy one of those flight cases seperatly?? and if so, wouldn't that prolly cost as much as 2 of the cherry boxes??
-
I think if you look around you can get them for about $175 or so. I got mine on Ebay for $150.
I have a single vintage Gotham box and I wanted another one, but I don't want the new wood boxes. The Gotham boxes have rubberized cutouts inside that won't degrade like the foam will. Since I haven't found a second Gotham box yet, I figured "what the hell".
As far as cost goes, in my mind it's worth it for these mics. I wouldn't feel the same way if they were ADKs or 414's. I'd just buy a pelican.

thanks for the info!!! i guess the flight case would work well since it would hold those huge shocks too!!

Pelican cases are outstanding, airtight and water resistant.

I havde a Pelican 1560... that is set for travel.. it meets FAA standards...
I also have a mini-pelican..not sure of the # but it is the largests and it holds just the mics very nicely..
Have pictures if you are interested.
