It arrived yesterday...and I know its not broken in, a couple hundred hours away from that.
and I know its "stock" :-X
and I know it can be MOD'd to holy hell should I decide to. Lots of room in there.
and I know I can roll the tubes should I feel the need, which i'm sure I will.
I was hopeful that it would be nice sounding. But honestly, I did not think this $400 DAC would best a $2k Toshiba DVD-A player. I had confidence that what I was hearing out of that unit was high end.
wrong again !
the Lite DAC, in its out of the box condition, blows the doors off of my Toshiba.
Sooo much more music ! I had no idea the Toshiba was ommiting so much music. bass responce is sick. Again, now this is an area that I keep thinking my system is doing "right", but the past couple of upgrades have shown me that everything can be improved upon.
Very happy w/this unit. I"m excited to put it up against the Benchmark and whatever else comes along.

should I change my handle to "fluffy" ?

I had someone on Agon e-mail me about his Bel Canto DAC2 claiming it beat out his Benchmark. He is also trying to sell me his DAC2, maybe Tim (you listening?) needs to send his DAC out sooner rather than later?
It's funny but in my research every other hi-fi site claims the newer generation of off shore DAC's beat out their Benchmark. Seems like typical flavor of the month to me but Agon guys still seem to hold the Benchmark as world class. We need to start experimenting here ASAP. Looks like I need to make a move ;D

fwiw Carl, mine has been in "loop mode" playing since I opened the box. i'll have a few hundred hours on it in notime (probably a few hundred hours ! )
the benchmark will sound better, imo. i'm sure the Lite is not all that. Its just better than what I had before it.
-
Why do you think the Benchmark will sound better?
-
because it sounds great, and I know how well that unit can open up your music.
-
Well, let's just wait & see what the DAC 60 can do, I have high hopes personally
