Title: error when transferring from HI-MD to PC???
Post by: mlynn02 on March 19, 2006, 10:32:02 AM
i just got this sony mz-rh910 MD walkman and recorded a show last night.  and this morning i'm trying to transfer to my PC, but it's giving me an "internal" error message everytime.  the recording was made in the PCM format and it's about 40 min long.  can't figure out what to do, anyone have any ideas?  anyone had similar experiences?

What exactly are you doing when you get the message?  And what is the exact error message?

i am trying to transfer the song file from the MD recorder to the PC using sonicstage.  it starts to do the transfer, the progress goes right up to 30% done, and then it stalls for a minute or two, then gives me an error message.  something like, "operation terminated due to an internal error".

What version of SS are you using?  Please upgrade to 3.4 since it removes most of the annoying DRM (digital rights management or MANURE >:D)

Also, can you play the track all the way to the end without problems?

Did you do any combining of tracks or dividing of tracks BEFORE trying to upload to the PC?  This can cause some major problems, especially if you are using an older version of SS (SonicStage).

You may want to take a look over at the Minidisc Community Forums' Software board if you haven't already...

But, first try updating your Sonic Stage to 3.4.

That alone may solve your problems.  I first had SS2.1 & that version was a POS.  I actually had to uninstall & reinstall every time i wanted to upload a show, as it would only work once.  Thereafter, I could click to open, it would throw up the splash screen, then close itself.  Updated to the newest version (3.0 at the time, I think), no problems since.

good advice, thanks guys.  i'm using version 3.0 i think.  i'll try upgrading (is it free?), and if i'm still having problems, i'll check the minidisc forum.

does SSv3.4 still only allow you to transfer a song to your PC once?  why do they do that??

It's free, and highly recommended.  Works like a charm for me.

Nope, all restrictions have finally been lifted.  Content provider lawyers (primarily US) had their say for too long...still do, imho.

SS 3.4 even allows you to upload to multiple computers.

For example, I can take tunes I digitally recorded from an optical, digital or analog input (and mic input) source:
1.  Upload to as many computers as I want
2.  Upload, convert to WAV or ATRAC, transfer back to the MD and then transfer again to a different computer
3.  Can also rip CDs to MD on 1 PC and then transfer to another computer.

As long as you tell SS 3.4 not to use DRM restrictions on your tunes, you will have no problems with restrictions for uploading, downloading or transferring.  It's really the best SS yet.

I have enjoyed loading tunes from my home PC and finally being able to transfer them to my work PC and play using Winamp while at work instead of having to keep my MD player at work all the time.   8)
