Title: Iriver 120 rockbox recording question
Post by: jkoch on March 27, 2006, 04:33:40 AM
just to clarify, line-in with a mini stereo plug is the only stable way to currently record with rockbox, correct?

the unit's optical in is not yet fixed and it does not have rca/coaxial input, correct?

thanks. just wanted to check :)

thanks guys. oh, and one more thing. my version of rockbox isn't the most current. is there any way to apply negative gain? my nbox+ is set at 20db and in some cases that seems like it might be too much. all i can tell is how to apply gain in 3db chunks.

Negative gain was working with the recording enhancements pack when I last tested a while back:

You really should check it out...I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.  Gain control in .5dB cbhunks (tis advised to use whole numbers though to avoid digital decimation), clipping backlight etc.

would I still need the original Rockbox firmware to add these features? or can I add them from the outset? I just got my 120 in the mail and am getting ready to load it up with everything so I can record in the near future. it's a bit confusing as an outsider but it'll hopefully be easier as I go.

You modify a version of the original firmware and it just boots instead of the original, much like a computer with two operating systems.  You download an original version of the firmware, mod. it, and then load it.  As soon as you turn it on, it loads the Rockbox version.  Check the other Rockbox threads, I have posted links to how to load the Rockbox firmware and also the "optimized" firmware which has all of the latest recording enhancements and should do negative gain.  Gain is analog up to around +20db and then goes to digital gain.  The gain is labeled to show you exactly where it goes from analog to digital as well.  Have fun!

iirc you must have the latest iriver firmware installed.

That should help.
