I've searched almost everyway I can think of, so my apologies if the answer's obvious, but anyway...
Who makes the shockmounts similar to the A20, but cost about a fifth as much? They're black, but otherwise identical.
Any help would be much appreciated...

Those look a lot bigger than the shempz ones. Is it just the pic, or are the Joe Meek's almost as big as the SP C-4 mounts or the sabra-som's for that matter?

Thanks for the help guys. +Ts all around...
FWIW, although it appears the Nady and Joe Meek mounts are identical, the Joe Meek ones do seem to be A LOT bigger than Schoeps mounts.
-
They aren't much bigger than the schoeps mounts, I had both. Joe Meek and Studio projects are owned by the same company so they are the same mounts.
-
nady sm5 is the one you want. its tiny.

actually I disagree...I had both and the Joe meek ones were at least 1.5 the size of the schoeps and probably actually closer to twice the diameter
also the meeks are made for a bigger diameter microphone...the cradle held the MGs perfectly (while the A20S was really tight on the MGs)

to me thats not much bigger i dunno, a matter of perception (also I used to use AT shockmounts so....)

I've got the Nady and I think the size is similar, but the cradle is too big for even the AKG 460s, so I'd say it's 22-23mm. Should be relatively simple to change out the cradle with an official schempz one from posthorn though.

it was too big for my pelusos as well. but...a little black tape on the mic body solved that.
word...

I have (2) A-20 (hard plastic) cradles I don't use...

Are these really smaller diameter than the Joe Meek/Studio Projects SP-4 shocks? They look the same.

It seems like this thread comes up every 6 months or so with the same outcome. One piece of info always seems to be missing, what mics to all of the shockmounts fit? What do they fit without modification (i.e. tape, shrink wrap, bubble gum, etc.)
I'd love to get rid of my AT's if I could find a lower profile shockmount that was durable to save space but they need to fit my 480's just right.

Anyone tried a lower offer then $14.95?

After a little research on these two shockmounts it looks like the Nady version is for mics that have a 20mm diameter. The JoeMeek shockmounts are for 22mm mics. Same factory line different cups maybe?
Go figure the AKG's are 21mm. :(

I have found that the AKGs fit in the "old style" bigger SP C-4 cradles.
The A-20 cradle is too small and the newer Joe Meeks/ SP C-4 cradles are too small... for C-480's
I haven't tried the Nady's yet :-\
edit...
I haven't actually tried the Joe Meeks, but I'd heard they were the same as the newer Studio Projects mounts.

The Nady is about 2.5" wide at the external diameter of the ring. No idea of how wide the schoeps one is.

I bought a pair once and only offered $10.95/ea.

All the Schoeps A20s I have here are exactly 2" external diameter, 1.5" internal diameter.
The mic holders are designed to hold mics which are 20mm in diameter. At a push, they will stretch to 21mm but the plastic is fairly brittle and I've snapped several by fitting my newer KM100 (21mm) bodies into them (my older KM100s are 20mm - no idea why Neumann changed this!).
They'll also take full size DPA 4000 series mics (though not the 4041) if I wrap a few turns of gaffer (duck) tape around the mics where they sit in the mount. You do however have to use the "S"version of the A20, as the extra length/weight of the DPAs needs stiffer elastic to support them without them sagging. In the standard elastics they flop about, making them difficult to point and at some angles the inside mount can touch the outer ring making the whole exercise a little pointless.
