Hi,
Just curious how people prefer to position their MK41's or AK50's for taping. Have you found different positions preferable if you are taping up front/further back? I have had great success with ORTF, but curious to what others are doing...
Thanks!

I like my MK41s DINA or DIN.
I prefer AK50s in the case in the bottom of someone's bag. :P

I love the 140s, still drool over those suckers and miss having them in my bag. But the 150s are too thin for my tastes. Not always, but much of the time I hear them. Then again, I like the muddy, sloppy Schoeps low end, so...no wonder!

haha, I was just joking, but I somewhat agree with you. The 150's definitely don't compare to the 41's.

I have to agree, the MK41's are the only Schoeps that I have really enjoyed listening to the recordings. Thanks for the input on positioning!
Would you generally use the DINa setup for a hat mount? (smaller distance between capsules). How often do/are you able to use the hypers outdoors?

DINA all the time ;D

Search for "stealth hat" or "Kangol" for information on mounting mics in a hat. DINA is a stereo microphone positioning technique. Check out this thread here http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=26461.0 and the other setup threads in the archive forum.

DINA = 17cm separation, 90 degrees.
In my experience, 17cm (about 6 11/16") is about the best you can do in a hat. I'm sitting way in the back of the arena for a show this week, and am running hypers (AT853) at 17cm/70 degrees - it's a boomy room.
With standard cards, I run ORTF in the hat.
As far as attaching the mics to the hat, I use velcro - holds nice and secure, minimal fuss.

CK-63's @ stacks (usually in DIN-A for this depending on the room).
