I have a couple that need tune ups. Someone said eslabs.com Anyone second it or have another recommendation?

Contact Dave Olson (Olsen?) who is a master at repair and upkeep. He has done well with my Naks and other classic equipment, but you would want to call him first because he has had some problems finding certain Nakamichi motors. He is a fantastic technician, and he really cares about the equipment.

There are guys on the list who know everything there is to know about NAK's, including a few who do repairs (and much cheaper than ESL). In a lot of cases if you describe what is wrong with your deck you might just get some advice that will help you fix it yourself, or at least point you to someone who can help.

They don't work on cassette decks anymore. Mine was the last one he did 8). Good thing to. It took him 3 times to get it right.
I would go with Prodig. for folks on the east coast that don't want to wait for ESL. If I had known he worked on cassette I would have gone with him in the first place.

Well, bumping and old thread now that all of the outlets are grounded in the new house. I hooked up both the ZX-7 and CR-5A to transfer some very old cassettes. ZX is dropping channels again and the CR-5A still needs the gear upgrade. Willing to pay fo someone to do it right and I do not think that Paul at Pro Digital fits that role anymore. I guess I am going to try to slide one of these into Jeff's queue at ESL.
Have you subscribed to the Naktalk mailing list through www.naks.com? This group is really active (again) and there are several people regularly posting who are known to do a good job at repairing these decks. So unless your decks need rare parts, which probably only ESL has these days, they can fix the decks way cheaper and it won't take months until they'll work on it.
The problems of your ZX-7 that you are describing sounds like the so-called "orange cap desease", which is common for '80ies Naks (my ZX-9 had similar problems). If that's really the case it shouldn't be a big problem to fix it.
