hey all,
i got some flac dvd-r's in on a trade and when listening to the flac files on winamp 5 full or trying to decodee them w/ flac frontend
i keep getting errors. the guy i did the trade w/ is as confused as i am because he said the stuff worked from his HD. he didn't check discs before mailing them to me.
the files were EAC'd then encoded to flac then burnt to dvd-r. the EAC'd files play fine from his HD. could this be a burn issue?
he was gonna burn the dvd's again and check for errors. but we still wanted to check here to see if any of you ever ran into this problem before.
the error when trying to decode in flac frontend reads:
****Got error code 2: FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_ERROR_STATUS_FRAME_CRC_MISMATCH
ERROR while decoding data
state = FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_READ_FRAME
now, i have no idea what this means 'cept i can't listen to the toons :'(
any help would be very much appreciated :)
peace
kevin

Hi,
I ran into this problem a couple of times. For some reason I could not decode from the DVDr. If that's what you're doing, try moving it to a harddrive then decoding. I never found out the exact nature of the problem, but it must be soemthing to do with the drive read speed.

yes, ALWAYS copy to the HD first and THEN decode
also kev, this is when md5 checksums come in VERY handy

why would he not test the files before mailing off your disc? that is a must for a good trade imo.

i dont, i verify in nero 6 ultra and check the md5's, but i dony copy to my hd or anything
i think he needs to copy the dvd-r to his hd and then decode

sorry i wasn't clear guys...
the flac's have already been xfered to my HD. the errors are comin' up after xfer to HD and during decoding in flac frontend. i never do anything from the disc. gotta check w/ jim to see if he re-burned and found any prob's. i think he said md5's were showin somekind of error as well ???
thanx for the help guys ;D ;D

nero verify doesn't do shit. well it does but should not be used to tezt/verify flacs. after you burn flacs test them (from the disc) in frontend. most flacs don't have md5's so again you must test them. again nero verify doesn't do shit. it only takes a min or or so to test the files in frontend.

First let me start with telling whom ever is reading this, Im the person who burned the bad flacs. (I feel like a second rate citizen right now.)
Ok here is what ive got. I reburned the first disc and then transfered it back to my HD. it all plays with my winamp player as a flac, but only 40% of the songs would decode with flac frontend. the original flacs I attempted to burn, I then put in flac frontend to test and they work fine. the problem is in the burning process. Im using the software that came with the dvd burner. its roxio esy cd & dvd creator. could the problem be in the software or in the set-up for the burner?

What burning speed are you using? Try slowing down to below 16x.

i'm gonna send you a copy of nero today...we'll see if that works :)

This may not be related, but I had similar errors encoding/decoding flacs a few months back. It seemed completely random and couldn't figure out what the hell was wrong. I eventually (after much hair loss) traced it back to a dodgy ram module.

FWIW - I always get tons of coasters with Easy CD Creator - worthless burning software IMO.

this software only gives me a 6x as the lowest option for burning data discs.
i have made lots of coasters my self w/ this software, but always told me if an error had happened.

ok, so as time passed i got my self nero 6 ultra. ive re-EAC the discs, encoded the wav to flac, and then burn them to dvd. they failed the nero verifacation process, and they won't decode from flac either. :-[
the trade originally was to be a few dead shows i have on cd, and a bunch of my recordings that i have stored on an additional internal HD. they are already in flac form on the HD. the only problems are w/ the dead shows that are CDR>EAC>Flac Frontend>dvd. all my pre existing recordings burn to dvd, and then transferback to HD, and then decode from flac problem free. WTF? ???
As nice as getting nero is, i dont think burning software was the problem.
I dont know what to do.....................................

Kev said all along it was a setting in flac frontend or eac. what setting would cause this? i used the default set-up for them both. ???
any ideas? :help:

hmm, dunno bud, can you take screenshots of both frontend and eac options?
might be a bad burner.....
