Title: soundcard for transfers
Post by: SkttrWave on May 01, 2006, 02:43:31 PM
I'm looking for a (cheap) soundcard to transfer dats to a computer. I've read that I'll need a bit perfect card.
Cheapest one I could find with optical in is the Terratec Aureon PCI 5.1, is that one bit perfect and good enough for transfers?

thanks in advance

I've searched everywhere but can't find any word on if this card is bit perfect or not. The terratec site does say the following about this card: "Optical digital inputs and outputs guarantee lossless recordings and the right connection for DVD, DAT or MiniDisc recorders." Does this mean it's bit perfect?

It's bit perfect.  All Terratec cards are, if I'm not mistaken.  My buddy has an Aureon and it works like a charm.

Thanks for the replies.
I found out that the aureon uses a cmi8738 chip which is bit-perfect. Knowing it's bit-perfetct I bought it, but now I see that it has toslink inputs that dont work directly with my poc-da12sp cable.. So now I gotta find a optical miniplug > toslink adapter. I've done some googling but they don't seem easy to find :(

I have a S'ekd  prodif 96 that is bit perfect and has toslink and spdif.  I would be willing to sell it for around $200 originally it was about $799.

Lots of options.  Google search with keywords toslink, mini, adapter (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=toslink+mini+adapter&btnG=Google+Search) reveals the following on the first page:
