Title: I hate my iRiver!!!
Post by: NotSoBlüe on May 12, 2006, 02:43:22 PM
I'm so frustrated with this thing I'm going to scream. I've barely attempted recording on it, I am having too much trouble even getting it to play music! Last night, I used some converting software that took some wav files from a cd and converted them to mp3s and (supposedly) saved them on my H drive which is the iRiver. It did its thing, took a long time, the little red light was flickering so I know it was recording. So I get to work today and discover ALL my music files are GONE. Everything, gone.  :-[ Before I started last night, everything was there. Now everything is gone, all my music files on it are empty!!! WTF???? >:(

edit: its an iHP-120 and I have rockbox loaded on it.

yeah I didn't change anything. however - i did find all (or most) of my music files in the ROOT. so they're still on there, just not where they should be. theres a way to switch between rockbox & the iriver firmware - anyone know how?

When turning on the unit, press and hold "Record" and the power button at the same time to boot the original iRiver software...

It sounds like you're getting a bit confused...

...are you sure you haven't converted your music to .wmas, which isn't supported by rockbox (and sound ordinary anyways)?

Depending on what setting you've got with your display settings in rockbox, unsupported files may not display.

Also, I don't know why you'd be seeing the rockbox logo if you're booting into the iriver f/w.

...And if your files are in the wrong directory, that's hardly a rockbox issue...it doesn't control where you put your music...

bob -- is there a way of not showing .wma files (and artists that only have .wma associated files)?  I've looked but can't find it.  I've got my "show files" set to "supported" (General settings>file view> show files), but it still displays all the artists that only have .wma associated files.

It makes it really cumbersome for me to try to remember which 350 albums out of 400 that are wma only and cannot be played by thru rockbox.  Until I can figure this out, re-encode my entire database from wma to mp3, or until rockbox supports wma, I think the rockbox will be useless for me for playback.  Just to hard to try to remember which artists/albums I can choose under rockbox and know I'll be able to play them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hrmm...I'm a bit rusty on this one because I stay well clear of wma.  I can't test atm either cos I'm in the middle of a recording battery test (9hrs and still going strong).

When you say 'it still shows all the artists that only have .wma associated files' are you referring to folders, files or tagcache?

Have you got dircache enabled?  If so, have you rebooted since enabling it?

I'd suggest heading on over to the rockbox forum to get some answers.

if set to only show supported files, rockbox will still show the directories if they only contain unsupported files.

Two ways to solve this in your situation:
- change your dir structure to separate supported/unsupported files
- use tagcache and set your fileview to id3

Good suggestion.  I would say make a WMA folder and drop all your WMA artist folder into that one that way you know where they are if/when WMA gets supported.  I do this with all my FLAC folders.

Yes, quite sure. All my music on there is in either MP3 or ogg. I know WMA isn't supported. And yeah I was confused (as well as frustrated)  because I couldn't figure out why my music vanished.

I dont know either. It appears I'm still using the rockbox firmware. Why it didn't switch is beyond me, but it did something and everything reappeared. And my files weren't in the 'wrong' directory, they were in the root. The files were where they were supposed to be, they were just empty, no music. But regardless, they're all back where they belong, and playing just fine so all is well.  ;D

Yeah we kissed and made up  :-*   ;D

I got so frustrated once with a MD player I had that I threw it off my apartment balcony. When I went and got it, it worked fine still (landed in the grass) so I sold it on ebay. Ha!
