Title: Portable HD's....?

I wasn't sure where else I should put this...going to All Good this summer and would like to dump files from the JB3 to a portable HD that I can transfer to my home computer later. I have a second JB3 I could use, but that's only 20 gig and I'm hoping that's not gonna be enough (or am I hoping against hope?).

Any suggestions/recommendations?

how much music are you planning on taping?  at 16 bit, 2 gigs gets you about 3 hours, so 20 gigs should get you 30 hours of record time... are you really going to need more than that?  and even if it's not enough, I'd guess it'd be easier to use your second JB3.  with both of them together, you should be able to get ~60 hours of record time (assuming you have enough battery power to power the units that long anyway)...

To the best of my knowlege they don't make a unit that will allow a firewire/usb backup from another device w/o a computer.  I say go for 2 jb3's and be happy with your pidly 60 hrs of music!

jeff, entirely likely that i'll be travelling with a laptop and an external HD to dump data off my r4.  you're good to go.

An option, if you're feeling brave, is to upgrade the hard drive in your primary jb3. The jb3 just uses a regular 2.5" laptop hard drive. IIRC the procedure is fairly well documented, although it does involve opening up the jb3 and poking around the inside. To be honest though you probably won't need to - I've taped at festivals before and 20GB was more than enough for me!

but JB3 uses a piece of software that would have to be on that laptop to get it to recognize the unit for transfers at the campsite
2 20gb should be fine though
