Title: Noise on recoding

Hi,

I just started taping this week (I have taped Springsteen in Barcelona and Artic Monkeys in Madrid).

I'm using this equipment: CMC-8 -> SP-SPSB-8 -> NJB3

In both recordings I got strange noises and I don't know why... here is an mp3 sample of the 2nd recording (artic Monkeys), I used a 95Hz roll-off and applied +8dB gain on the NJB:

it is present at the begining of the track, and the at around 13 seconds it goes away and in 2-3 seconds is back again. This is repeated all through the recording.

any thoughts on how to avoid this in the future would be great.

Is there anything I can do to remove / minimize this noise with adobe audition or any other software? I haven't used this software a lot in the past so if anyone can point me on how to improve it would be terrific.

It's a new technology that venues are implementing at shows by non-taping bands. They send out an RF and a microwave signal at the same time to excite the platter of your hard drive that adds 2's to the normal binary data being recorded.

The JB3 gain tends to create noise, from what I've read.  As mok3 pointed out, it is usually from the HD.

I'm sure plenty of JB3 users here can give you more info.

only way to insure that you do not get HD noise is to have it on the default dB setting of zero. 

+/- 4 you are usually safe.

around +/- 6 your asking for it.

+/- 8 and above your guaranteeing it.

Thanks for the info... I won't be using the db gain on the NJB any more then... I think I never read about it before... or maybe I did but I wasn't paying enough attention.

Dont worry about it, I did the same thing first time taping and it was a Jazz show, but i bumped it + 10 so it really was noticably on the show.

You can always bump the overall volume up in post-show by normalizing etc.

that is if you need volume.
