also when i set sthe source to S/PDIF under record settings the sample rate goes to auto. but when i transfer the file to my computer the sample rate is always recorded at 96 even if i set it to 44.1 or 48 on my V3??? anyone know why this might be???

Weird. Do you see normal levels on the MT display when you are recording?

yes, the levels on the microtrack are showing up as they should based on the gain setting of the V3

Make sure your SPDIF cable actually fits in all the way snugly, I had to get a ratshack spdif that would actually fit.  I had monster, they just barely connected, all I got was static.

thanks joe!! i'm headed to the shack right now. i'll let you know if that works. i've tried an apogee S/PDIF cable and an audio magic XLR>S/PDIF and have got the same results with both.

You don't have to use low quality cable to get a correct fit.

This is because the cables are not causing the problem you encountered, it is the connector at the end of the cables.   I know several people (such as myself) that have been using Canare cable with Switchcraft connectors.  I would also bet that many of the custom cable makers on this site will provide you with high quality cables using connectors that fit the tight space on the MT.

Yeah, totally poor design on MT's part as far as the recessed SPDIF connection. Glad you got it working though!
