anyone running a v2 off of a WallMart 9.6 volt battery
right now the v2 is set up to run off of 12v SLA
but it would power up with a 6v SLA i have too
if this is possible and I think it should be, when you wire it up to the 4 pin XLR would you treat it as 12v or 6v for pin assignments.
My first few outings with the v2 will be festivals so I will be using the SLAs anyway, but it would be nice to have something smaller
and lighter for single shows

I run mine off a 9v DVD batt. Works great.
As far as pin assignments, You wouldn't need a 4 pin for the DVD batt.

you must be thinking v3, with a v2 you need a 4 pin to hook into the v2 side
I was asking if you would wire that one up with 6v or 12v pin assignments

i use a DVD battery as well with no problems. if your unit is calabrated to 12v though you will get the low voltage warnings
for the 4-pin I think he is talking about the female end that goes into the unit. i honestly don't know what the pin scheme would be - i had ed @ kind kables make me a beautiful power cable with RAs on both ends - he could probably answer the pin question

Personally, I'd wire the battery-side 4 pin using the 12 volt pin-out. Though it would make no difference for this application, if somebody tried using the battery to power something else, it'd be better (IMO) to feed a device wanting 12v too low a voltage than to feed a device wanting 6 volts too high a voltage.

good thinking
+Ts all around

i have talked with grace and the v-2 is wired for both 6 and 12 volts so it can accept both voltages.
i wired terrapinj's as a 6 volt so that the low battery indicator would not come on.
thanks

What kind of run times are you guys getting off these dvd batteries, and how big are they?

i haven't run one dry yet to test, the other night i had the v2 powered up for about 4-5 hours and the battery only went down one light (out of 3) and it had some previous use on it as well. the battery is about 4" x 6" and maybe 3/4" thick...
here's one on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/Universal-Li-ion-Battery-for-Portable-DVD-Player-6hrs_W0QQitemZ9730320507QQcategoryZ15055QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (http://cgi.ebay.com/Universal-Li-ion-Battery-for-Portable-DVD-Player-6hrs_W0QQitemZ9730320507QQcategoryZ15055QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
you can get them cheaper though

I get 5.5 hours with the dvd batteries with the v-3.
the v-2 draws 500 milliamps, the dvd batteries are 5.4 amp hours, 10 hours would be a resonable guess.
someone test it out. you can't hurt the battery it will shut off before any damage can happen.
thanks

thanks ed - i was curious what the draw was on the V2. i'll try to run some runtime tests this weekend and report back here

Thanks. How much cheaper could they be, and could I get one locally?

ratshack carries a variation of the battery but charges like $70 or so. you used to be able to get them for really cheap ~$30 or so at some wallmarts and people have also found them around that price at CompUSA or Staples.
the last one i got was branded energizer, got it New off ebay for like $20 shipped or something like that. although that one is 7.2v, but should still work fine. i have bought three off of ebay now and I don't think i've paid over $30 for one shipped. they are commonly up there as ESA as well.
some search terms to use: esa battery, universal dvd battery, external dvd battery, li-ion dvd battery, etc.

Thanks again!
