i'm looking for new mics.. currently running C4's but after hearing the difference the upper end mics produce, i'm considering upgrading. found a pair of km184's for 875 shipped.. any thoughts on the km184's?

Tons of info in the mic faq about the 184's. Great all around mic, but all mic opinions are purely subjective. For me? I'll never get rid of mine.

I had a pair and moved back to team AKG... I like solid bass response in my recordings and the neumanns were too mucky for me.

I don't understand the "vs. Schoeps" part in the title.
I don't think you can really compare km184s to the whole schoeps brand. If you had to compare anything I would compare the km100 line to the collete series from schoeps.

I have to agree. We are talking about two completely different 'sounds' here, not to mention the 'active' capability. Find as many sources with the two different mics and listen, listen, listen. That will at the least give you an idea of what type of sound you are after.
I ran the 184s for a while and liked them, esp in small rooms. In big halls the bottom end got a too bloated for my tastes. I love the Schoeps pretty much across the board - tight bottom end, great mids and brilliant highs.
Then you have to match the mics to a pre and adc, have fun!
If you get the 184s you will be happy - many a great recording made with those mics 8)
