Title: Cable price increases coming *now*
Post by: it-goes-to-eleven on May 25, 2006, 02:01:27 PM
Most cable mfgs are about to raise prices significantly.. I've heard 10-14%, maybe more.  This is due to the rising cost of copper, etc.  So if you were planning any major purchases you may want to get on it..

Belden: May 30
General Cable - Carol Products: June 1
Amphenol RF: June 1
Alpha Wire: June 12
Amphenol Connex: June 13

I heard it's not the copper but the dielectrics - pvc, teflon, etc are hydrocarbons = oil, oil prices are thru the roof now... :(

pretty much anything produced from oil or an oil by product is going up big time.... my dad is in the carpet business and they have seen a huge increase in prices because carpet is made mostly from nylon, a crude oil product.

yeah I do research in a chemistry lab during the summer and the price of chemicals has gone up 30% in the last year for us because most solvents are petroleum derivatives of some form...we're working on green chemistry techniques to do synthesis in water to get around the need for oil but its a slow process
