Title: Edirol R1 USB Transfer ?
Post by: Nick Graham on May 27, 2006, 01:12:42 PM
I noticed something strange the other night when transferring a show....when transferring via USB direct from the R1, if I've used a 4GB CF Card, the R1 isn't recognized by Windows. The screen still says "connected via USB", but nothing happens. If there's a 2GB card everything's fine.

I know the R1 originally couldn't handle cards > 2GB, is this a lingering effect, or is my unit (or possibly my PC) just screwed up?

I've got a CF card reader built into my PC, so no huge problem (other than transfer speeds beng MUCH faster with USB),  just seems kinda weird.

i've transferred dozens of shows from using R-1 (with a 4GB Kingston Elite Pro CF card), on several different computers. all of said computers recognized the R-1 as a 'new drive' and were able to transfer the files, no problem.

I've never connected my R1 via USB I always throw the card into my reader and the transfer is very fast. I also use the Kingston 45X card.  I'll give it a shot later and see what happens. I burning in some new toys anyway.

the firmware on my unit is v1.03 (which is the latest firmware). but like i said in my post that you quoted, i have *not* had any problems transferring files from the R-1 to any computer.

No problem transferring USB here either. I prefer to do it this way so to save the wear and tare on the CF socket by inserting and removing the card constantly...

Did any resolution every come of this? I am having the same problem (its actually the same unit since I bought it from Nick). I had been using the card reader on my computer but I was doing a transfer on my laptop the other night and couldn't get the R-1 to show up as a mass storage device for the life of me. I tried several different cables but they all produced the same result...nada. Nick, did you ever get it to cooperate with a usb transfer?  Bummer too b/c I have a great recording of Clapton in Philly from Monday just sitting on there.

It never did work with my desktop PC (via USB - it worked with the CF card reader), but worked fine with my old laptop, my iMac G5, and my new MacBook. I figured it was just something with that particular PC.

Hmmmm....
