Been thinkin' a bit about changing my track numbering convention, now that I'm recording/releasing in 24/96. Considering changing over to consecutive track numbers for the whole show, and doing away with restarting at track 1 every 80 minutes. Anyone else thinking about this issue? Any consensus?

I would say track for the planned medium.
If you seed 24/96 planned for DVD-A, track consecutively.
Seeding 16/44 for CD, track out by 80 minute disc.
Just my $.02, seems the easiest way to do it.

I was just thinking about this today. Here is an example of my solution. This way the naming convention allows for identification of both 80 min and consecutive numbering. I always make a wav, flac and mp3 copy of my shows. This addresses all formats except flac. Flac is usually 2 CD's instead of 3. But there is not really a flac player, so it must be converted anyway.

I track out my 80 minute CDs unless I can't find a logical space to break the discs. This happened with a Foo Fighters show recently. The songs just kept going into each other. I'd rather people not break up the tapes and burn them anyway, most of the time.
I've been doing it more and more. Do people still burn CDs of shows anymore? I haven't done that in forever.

i track out for 80 min cds, becauee when i listen to whole shows in foobar, it doesnt amtter anyway

When setting up my 24bit reording I copy the file over. If any editing need to be done to the 24 bit now is the time to do it. Don't dither yet.
When you are happy with the sound of your 24bit file create a .cue file to break tracks away from the main file. These are your 24bit masters..
Name them however you want, I use:

bandYYYYMMDDSet2T01
bandYYYYMMDDSet2T02
bandYYYYMMDDENC1T01
bandYYYYMMDDENC1T02
Now when happy with your 24bit take the source file just before you did the 24bit split. Now you will need to readjust the sampling rate and dither.
Once you have done that split the new file using the .cue file that was already created. By determining the lengths of the song you will be able to tell how the songs shoulld ge placed on a cd.
EDIT: Typos... Damn my typing is bad in the middile of the night.

FWIW, here's how I do it:
24-bit, single set - single track listing
24-bit, multiple set - single track listing per set
16-bit, regardless of single or multiple sets - track listing per CD length
Aside from the difference above, I also generate non-destructive "fade-in" and "fade-out" tracks (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=8520.msg99805#msg99805) if the 16-bit spans more than a single disc.

I just track out the 24 or 16 identically
basically i cut the 24 bit files as if it was a CD. When burning to long play media the tracks dont care as long as the are numerically correct.
plus when Creating DVD-A I usually try to use the actual track names when creating the Montage file so when displayed on the menu it has the song name.

I use the same .cue sheets to track out both so it saves a bunch of time to just do it 1 way IMHO

I've stopped tracking for discs mostly.
I figure the vast majority of people are listening with their mp3/media player. I know personally i haven't burned a show to audio CD's in at least 3 years, so I'm not really too worried about the people who still do. And if they do, they can split it up on their own, and have whatever sort of length to the discs they want. Most things i've taped end up being roughly 90 mins maybe slightly more, so it's like do you track it at 45mins + 45 mins, or just let someone do what they want if they want to use filler and put 75 mins on one, 15 mins on another and fill the end of the disc with a smaller recording?
Let everyone else decide what they want to do, I'm just providing the show.
