Title: Hypers for Lawn Taping??

well, it looks like i'll be taping from the lawn for Phil/GRAB in Raleigh. are hypers preferred over cards for lawn taping? will the hypers "bring me a little closer"? thanks for your input!!!

I was just about to ask the exact same thing. AKG 391 vs 93's.

Im guessing this is going to get moved to the mics section though.

IMO your tape will definitely sound "closer," but the hypers will also create more phasing-type issues and, at times, a more unnatural sound, particularly if there is any noticeable air movement.  As everyone else will probably be running cards or omnis, try the hypers. 

[edit to add: I would run the mk4s and see how you like them, assuming you do not have the mk41s.]
