I find myself wanting to run cards more and more lately, and I only have the hyper (21) caps for my MG's. It seems like I have to be more precise on patterns when using the hypers, where as I feel I could have more wiggle room/room for error if I was using cards instead. I'm thinking about switching to 184's or maybe 480's. But everyone and their dog uses 480's ::) Don't know what to do, hmmmmm.

Why not just get the MG cards?

can't afford to buy additional toys, i can only trade, maybe with a small amount of cash...

here's another recommendation for the MG card caps :)
I know that that's not really your plan, so I'll elaborate a little more. before running the Gefell's, I had a pair of km184's. they were good mics, and will probably sounds more similar to MG's than the AKG's. though, in my opinion, the MG's have a deeper and tighter bass, a sweeter mid-range, and a smoother high frequency response. So, I guess I prefer the Gefell's over the km184's in every aspect :) For these reasons, the difference in cost between the two sets of mics is justified. But, in all honesty, the km184's are close, and if money is a big concern, you'll probably be happy with them. The Gefell hypers are very nice though, but in general, I run cards the vast majority of time (which is why I only own the cards, although I have run both the m21 and the m27 caps). So I understand why you'd want a pair of cardiod mics. It took me a long time to save up for a new pair of MG's. if I were still running the km184's, I'd probably still be happy. but not as happy as running the Gefells ;)
The 480's will have a very different sound. a lot of people run those mics, because of a lot of people like the way they sound. I much prefer the sound of Gefell's, that's why I run them. Do you like the AKG sound? surely, there are plenty of 480 > minime tapes out there, so you should be able to get a pretty good idea of what those mics can do. Again, I see this as a larger departure from the MG's, but if you like the way it sounds, who cares if tons of other people use them, go for it!

Hrmm I would possibly be into swapping my 460's w/cards and hypers for yr gefells.. :)

C-481> Mini-Me is a good rig. I ran it for a while. I eventually wanted a more transparent sound and got the ACM PMD671.
There are some 480 bodies for sale here: http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=65586.0
I'm wanting to get CK62's, so I might sell my CK61's.

yeah i ran 481's for a while, and i did like them, although i ran them V2>Ua5, not MME. I would LOVE to have MG card caps, but as i said above, ain't got no bread right now. I would gladly trade the hypers for the cards, but i doubt anyone would be into that. thanks for the opinions fellas ;D

210's are kick-ass hypers, I say keep em!! ;D
-
Keep the Gefells. Save up for more gefells. Gefell is the number one mic company on the planet, you know. ;) One word..handmade. two words--sonic superiority :)
-
I want to keep them, but I am craving some more flexability :-\
-
Start saving up for the cardioid caps, maybe someone would want to do a temporary trade so you can try them out for a while...
I know the craving to try something new can be really strong, but 210's rock!!

I want to keep them, but I am craving some more flexability :-\
you have the ability for flexability... it just cost money
inflexible would be stuck with mg300s... not that its a bad thing if that is your cup of tea.
save and get the cards... then the omnis... then another set... >:D

True, I should have said flexability w/out spending more $ ;)

Quality over quantity Scooter! From time to time demos come up at Gefell, youll be the first to know when and if a pair comes up.
