yesterday was the second time I tried to record off the sound guys' board with the 1/4 inputs to the microtrack 24/96. Even though my volume levels were all the down, the whole thing was peaked/distorted. i don't know if the sound guys have any control to drop the levels to the recorder, they were too busy to bother. should this be happening though? the recording of course has some distortion. Is there any way to clean that up at all, say using audacity? doesn't have to be cd quality. i recorded wav 16 bit 44.1 and my firmware is 1.1.5. TIA for help/suggestions, i'm still new at this.

only suggestion i can make is not microtracker specific, but you might want to add some attenuator cables to your cable collection.

I have an attenuator cable for my mic input, do they make them for the 1/4" left/right inputs as well? can anyone recommend one or can i just get it at radio shack?

Did you have the L/M/H switch on L(Line in)? Also what firmware were you using?
EDIT: the M(mic) and H(high gain?) will boost the levels more than the L. Wasn't there a problem with the early firmware where the L/M/H was all backwards(that's why I ask about the firmware).

Yeah, the board's output levels can be dropped. I always ask the sound guys to do that, especially when recording pro-level signals with consumer recorders. Recently, one of the sound guys even showed me how to do it myself ;)

This is a known issue which has been talked about in one of the many threads concerning the MT.
You will to attenuate the signal from the board or have the sound guy tone down the 'heat' ...
