Um... yes... On a stock un modified UA-5 the spdif should work as designed since the box has not been modified.  ::)

I believe the coax works with all the popular mods out there.  I know it is still enabled after the Oade mods.

well, the ua-5 was designed to work with a computer.  when a stock ua-5 is not connected to a computer, the S/PDIF output will not work.  this is what the "digi-mod" does, allows the coax output to be active without being connected to a computer.  there are directions on how to do this yourself available online (it's been discussed here many times, it probably won't take too long to find)

Looks like the stock UA-5 will not pass coax or digital unless is connected to a PC via USB.  It's already been confirmed by Jason above, but NJFunk & Brian Skalinder confirm it in this thread also:

this is really a trick question, YES it "works"
but not as a stand alone unit
we do not know if he is recording into a laptop or not

so to clearify for him
YES the coax works on a stock unit if plugged into a pc
NO it doesn't qwork if plugged into a Microtrack UNLESS it has a digi mod

so untill you know 100% what you want to use as a recorder, you may or may not need the digimod

I'd do the digi mod for you  (if your not that type of person) for karma and cost of shipping.

Big +T for that offer!  That's a mighty kind gesture, Brian.
