24/96 capible or even 16/44
Nomad jukeboxes you cant buy new,so used it out of the question.what are some similar products that will record to hard disc?
laving the relm of DAT,all answers would be helpful.I was thinking a JB3 but used....is used and the risk of buying someone elses garbage is still a factor..
exteral power time info also...would be helpful

no problem buying a used JB3.

there are many.
the Sound Devices 722 will write to a harddrive and/or CF cards. (or the 744 for four channels)
There's the Marantz PMD-660 for just 16 bit, or the PMD-671 for up to 24/96 (both to CF cards, and both can be modded to oade)
There's also the Tascam HD-P2. very similar to the Marantz 671. records to CF cards
the edirol R4 records up to four channels to harddrive
the ediroal R09 records to SD cards
The M-Audio MicroTrack records to CF cards up to 24/96
look around on the board, there is a ton of discussion about all of these recorders. which one is "best" will largely depend on your needs and your budget.

iRiver H120/H140 is pretty solid for 16bit too

That thing looks like it could launch a space shuttle, send it to pluto and back, and then safely land it back at Cape Canaveral taping the whole way.

I think the idea Teddy was to have it "mobile" ;D
Speaking of the Cantar, you rented one didn't you? What did you think of it? Most of the people I've seen say it's overly complex in the routing, but still like it.

Yessir, I loved it. More complex than the Deva by a sight, but yes,..a real slick machine.

any real difference in sound? or any reason to choose one over the other?

the first 3 pots were helpful thanks....
YES,Im looking for mobile equiptment,Ive got studio stuff...
SSIA....

The differences were negligible as far as sound goes...the Deva is definitely more intuitive, but the ergonomics of the Cantar are better, I would say. Of course, for the 7-9,000 dollar difference, youd figure as much.

I think what people are getting at in a roundabout sort of way is: we need to know more about your requirements. For example:
- What's your budget for the recorder?
- What's your budget for an external power source for the recorder?
- Are you seeking strictly a bit-bucket to use with an external ADC, or do you want to use the internal ADC in the recorder?
- Will you use an external preamp, or rely on the recorder's internal gain?
- Does the unit need to provide bias or phantom power to the mics, or do you have an external mic power source?
- Do you want a recorder that stores data on HD, or CF card, or SD card, or...any or multiple of those?
Without more information, no one can really provide an appropriate answer, except by getting lucky and making guesses about your budget, usage, etc.
