Title: Need help getting rid of slightly bass distortion on my recording
Post by: fandelive on June 25, 2006, 06:17:44 AM
hello,

I just recorded a new show, but got some slightly bass distortion on my recording...
You can mostly hear it on the first part of the show. Then, I think they dropped down the volume a bit.

First part sample :

Second part sample :
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GCKF1QI9

Here's the setup :
Source : SP-BMC-12 > SP-SPSB-6524 (bass roll-off filter set at 888Hz) > Sony MZ-R700PC (line-in). Binaural recording/mics clipped to hat.
Conversion : Sony MDS-JE480 (line-out) > Creative SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 (line-in) > Adobe Audition 1.5 > CD Wave.
Location : 4th row, right stack (FOB).

Where do you think it came from?

- Crap recorder?
- Weak battery in the battery box?
- Did I set the recording level too high? (15/30, when playing my tape the volume indicator hardly reaches the middle...)

I'd like to increase the quality of this recording, so does anyone have an idea on how to proceed?
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!!

the max spl that those mics can handle is 125db

It sounds like the show or the bass was turned up quite a bit, and overloaded the mics

Have fun trying to fix bass distortion
