Title: DPA 4061 mics?
Post by: lushka on June 27, 2006, 03:03:41 PM
I was planning on upgrading my existing taping rig, which consists of a bunch cardiod Sennheiser mics, to DPA mics. Are they worth the price that they cost considering the fact that I tape loud rock/metal bands mostly in mid-size and large boomy arenas?

Thanks.

In my opinion, stick with the directional mics.

The DPA are really going to shine in small venues, or outdoor stuff maybe, if you can get close to the speakers.  They would also be great for acoustic gigs.  If you don't want to step up to DPA, you might try the Sennheiser MKE2.  These are nice small omni mics, and about half the price of the DPA.

4061s are great mics as long as you are in the sweet spot or up close. The further you are out of the sweet spot, the sound isn't quite as good.

Thanks guys,

Guess, I'll stick with cardiods.
