Have a show I taped in 24 bit. Tracked it and flac'd it so its ready to be seeded somewhere. I also took the 24 bit show and dithered it down for a 16 bit copy. Which should I seed? I know everyone is going to scream seed the 16 bit and I understand all the reasons why but then what happens to the 24 biot version. I'm thinking if I seed the 16 bit version first then there will be no interest in the 24 bit version.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Too bad there is not a 24 bit only torrent site.
EDIT TO ADD: Bandwidth is not a problem for me when seeding so that particular issue is a non-issue for me right now.

Start the seed for the 24bit a week or two before the 16

I say do 'em at the same time...maybe 16 bit first, but I wouldn't wait a week to seed 16 bit. Most people don't even do 24 bit yet and unless it's a band that draws alot of attention, it might not even be worth seeding the 24bit at all. I wouldn't worry about "what will become of the 24 bit version" because folks who want 24 bit will wait for it...then again, I'm an idiot about this stuff.

What he said. FWIW, I usually seed the 16-bit first. Since there's more interest, and the fileset is smaller, other seeders pop up more quickly (than the other way around), at which point I switch over to 24-bit.

I usually seed the 16 then 24, for shorter shows, both at the same time.

plus if you seed the 16 first you won't have 100 people asking "how do I burn this to cd, or to my ipod?" ;D

To me, it depends not on the bitrate, but the sampling rate... 48K/96K, etc.
Seeding a 24 bit/44.1 recording at 24 bit makes NO sense, since you're only using the extra headroom in the recording process. A 24/48 recording could at least be burned to DVD - higher sampling rates will allow for greater definition, but only YOUR ears can tell you if the dithered/downsampled version can compare to the original.
I always seed at 16 bit - I usually record at 24/48, sometimes at 24/44.1.

Thanks guys. +T all around.
I'll seed the 16 bit tomorrow and see if there is any interest in the 24 bit seed.
Los Lobos by the way for anyone interested. I'll throw a link over in the Kickdown Section as well.

i would do the 16 1st otherwsie you might end up wqith people taking the 24 and dithering it themself

You can get the 16 bit seeded to multiple people within a day or so, and then seed the larger 24 bit file
People who want it will either wait or download both
