Howdy folks,
I was wondering what situations are practical for running omnis? I will be taping a band in a small cafe and there probably won't be more than 40-50 people. Thinking about trying it, it's a pretty small (akward shaped) place. Its sort of shaped like an L with an L shaped bar. The stage is on the inside of the corner (against the wall) if that makes sense. Any thoughts?

When to use omnis?
Always. ;)
Set up in the sweet spot & they'll shine.

I'm still trying to figure out where the sweet spot would be in this akwardly shaped place hehe.

Personally, I don't run omnis (bc I don't have any!) but omnis are generally used closer to the sound source and should be spaced roughly 18"-36" apart from one another, as the stereo image is based on subtle time differences to the mics. I would stay away from omnis in chatty crowd situations or far from the sound source, but under ideal conditions omnis can sound amazaing!
Any omni users have more detailed instructions?

I dont have the equip. for an 18" spread that kind of kills the omni idea i guess.

Use a metal hanger and rig it to the top of the stand. You should get 30" easy.

Classic Moke... Wha? Omnis? Get yourself a j-disc! :)

Omnis are great. As long as you are in the sweet spot and not in a chatty crowd, you should be great.
I plan on getting some cards sometime in the future though just in case. :)

It's just a thought, not sure I will run the omni's. Being a small place with a bar I don't want to get a lot of noise from themworking and what not.
