Title: best compact 24-bit recorder?
Post by: musicsherlock on July 11, 2006, 02:40:15 PM
sold my jb3 and my MT to help fund my SD 722...now I'm contemplating a small back-up recorder...

stopped reading all the various threads on MT after one blew up...and the R-1 wasn't really my bag...the r-09 sounds interesting...iRiver, is it there yet?

what do you all think? my flexible requirements:
<$300
nice A/D
24/48 minimum; would prefer 24/96
small
good analog inputs
I have a 6GB microdrive so compatability would save me a couple of bucks...

I think the consensus would be that if you're looking for an analog recorder the R-09 would be the choice.

For a lower cost bit bucket (optical), the MT would probably be the choice.  I think it has become more stable.  I gave up reading the threads, so I don't know for sure.

The iRivers are not capable of 24 bit.

I may be in the minority, but if your getting a 722, a backup recorder is well past overkill.  Other than the very initial firmware issues, mine is stable as a rock

I'm with Nick.  I'd skip the backup recorder and put the $300 towards a future mic upgrade, or nifty new accessories, or some such.

why not just mirror to flash in the 722 and that way you have a backup if your HDD decides to die. If the unit dies anything patched out of it wont do anygood anyway unless you are running a Pre infront of the 722

maybe I'm just paranoid and like to have 2 of everything... ???

as far as a "future mic upgrade" goes...the only upgrade to my 480's would be a second pair or a softer box to hold them in >:D
