I really like the way my R-09 works compared to my JB3 and Iriver HP-120. Much easier to use, better metering and better sound quality.
Here are some sample files made at the National Rainbow Gathering in Colorado last week. (all acoustic, primitive camping, great music jams everywhere you go.) AT-853 pair clamped to my glasses, connected direct to R-09, no battery box. With them clamped to my glasses right in front of my ears it records almost exactly what I am hearing, even when I move or turn my head. The preamp is very clean and sounds good even on songs where it was too quiet and I had to add gain in post. I recorded around 15 hours, and almost all of it came out great. 16bit /44.1k
This was 4 guitars, upright bass, 8 singers, 1 djembe drum, and 200 noisy audience around a fire, 12 db of gain added:
