Recorded Panic last night with my MT from the V3 SPDIF at 24/48. First set came out really nice sounding. Second set sounds like the chipmonk rock! Almost as if it was recorded in FWD mode if that is possible. Am I looking at a software issue here? Anyone else have this issue? Can my second set be salvaged in any way? WTF??
I transfered to my PC and no change, sounds the same. 1st set sounds killer, second....speeded up.
Running firmware 1.3.3 & have never experienced this before. Can it be something else I did during startup or otherwise? I'm really bummed my second set pull got potentially F-up! :angry3:
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
LoS

Ok now....more clues. Upon closer inspection of the file characteristics I noticed for some reason the frequency was recorded at 88kHz instead of 48kHz. Fired up the V3 to see what it was set at thinking I may have accidently kicked up the frequency to 88, but it was still set at 48. Is it possible the MT thought it was getting at 88kHz signal? Its set to "Auto" sample rate. Could it be the V3? I JUST got it back from Grace on the polarity reversal issue. (but have a hard time thinking its my V3....I mean come on now.....we're talking Grace vs M-Audio).
Because the MT has an auto frequency select (meaning it defaults to the incoming freq. response) I shouldn't have to worry about what its set at. But it this feature of the software malfunctions I suppose the result would be what I experienced?
Fishin for ideas.... ???

I've had this happen before...also coming out of a V3; also at Panic ;D .
The problem is just the header of the wav file. If you change it to 48 it will sound perfect.
I don't recall exactly how I did this, but I did it with Sound Forge.
I'm off to work, but if no one else can help I'll post back after I fiddle with SF a bit.

Cool! Any help is mucho appriciated. I will see if I can figure out how the change the header in Samplitude or WaveLab. Don't have SoundForge anymore. Would dpPowerAmp do it? I'm trying it right now back to convert back to 24/48. I also made copies of the original as well so I don't loose the master.
Crossing fingers ::)

The firmware version you were using proved most problematic. Suggest using either v1.4.0 or newest v1.4.1b2 beta version.

BTW, just as an FYI, a similar thing can happen when you encode MP3 files at 48 kHz. Certain players, especially flash players on web pages, will play them at the wrong speed, LOL! Anyway, just a head's up to stick with 44.1 on the MP3 front.

In Wavelab:
- open the file
- select Edit | Audio Properties
- set the Sample Rate to 48 kHz
- save the file

In Sound Forge:
Just open the file, Process tab > Resample > select 48,000 Hz in the drop down and check Set the sample rate only (do not resample) then save the file.

Done!
I was able to figure out on my own. Thanks for the help though folks!! I really appreciate it!
Sounds like an upgrade in firmware is in order for the MT.......just glad I was able to salvage set 2 pull.
Even though the MT has its quirks :-\ it sure did sound nice running 24bit, especially with the Gefells......
I'm a happy taper indeed.

For what its worth, I had this problem the entire weekend at AllGood, was running 16/44.1 and it thought I had 16/96. Changed the wav files afterwards and everything was fine. freaking annoying though. Oh and it is version 1.4.0b2 or whatever

FYI: I figured out how this is happening...
