can this thing stream 24/96 yet?
-
The response from the man himself... I'm not sure how hard this would be to do but I'm continuing to prod for the enhancement.
This is a hardware/firmware thing, not SlimServer. It's not that it
can't be done on SB3, but it would be a separate engineering effort due
to different hardware in Transporter to facilitate higher sample rates.

nice...
but i'll keep my shitty dell and $15 chaintech card.
-
Exactly. Two grand = nice DAC and more computer than you could possibly want for playback.
-
SB3 plus upgraded power supply = same exact thing almost. I think I am going to get one though ;)
-
I love my SB3 - changed the way I listen to music at home. But, this product seems excessive.
-
Does SB3 = Squeezebox? ???

Squeezebox 3.

Um, no... More 'almost' than 'same exact thing'
Specifically:
Balanced and unbalanced outputs
New/Different DAC
AES/EBU digi out
24/96 support
lower jitter
Digi Inputs
Clock Input
RS232 automation support
faster processor
individaul power supplies
rack mountable chassis, dual displays

I still like cds.... :-\

cds suck.
litter my house and car.

I must say I was in the same boat, but I bought a squeezebox to make sense of the mess a bit, and I must say it is very nice to be able to thumb through your whole collection with a remote. The only thing I do miss is the 'hmm i haven't listened to this cd in a while' aspect of having piles of discs.
-
I just like being able to listen to them at home, in the car, and at work.

FWIW.. I can stream my entire music collection via an encrypted SSH port forwarding tunnel to just about any workplace that allows outbound SSH access..
You can encode that stream to any bandwidth mp3 you'd like or leave it as flac if you have the bandwidth. My buddy works for a library and does the same. You don't even need a squeezebox for that, just the free server.
But I still burn CDs for the car ::)
-
that sounds pretty sweet, but I'm unsure that I would be able to set that up.... maybe I'm just kinda strange (maybe?!? ;D) but I also just like having a CD collection. I like looking at them... I like having my meritline case filled...
I think a huge cd collection is like art. A friend of mine, who still uses jewel cases, has two huge shelves that go from the floor to the ceiling... I think its uber cool. :-\
-
i also have a massive wall of CDs. all getting dusty..
when I think of the HDD space I could have purchased in place of all those jewell cases, printer ink and fancy paper...
fucking waste.

Yeah, but that was then, and this is now. :P ;D

I'll have a wireless brand new sb3 and a wired sb2 w/ the latest firmware for sale real soon now. make me an offer.
-
is the DAC pretty decent in the SB3 or would you recommend an outboard DAC?
that new Transporter looks pretty slick on their website, plus for the 2grand price they are including a SB3, still more than im looking to drop right now, but damn that thing looks sweet.
