Title: Need firewall help
Post by: cbd on July 26, 2006, 11:06:19 AM
Jim Pollock was kind enough to help me set up a wireless router this weekend for my laptop & my desktop which I use to mater & seed shows was also hooked up to it (I believe). I just seeded my 1st torrent since then (Ryan Adams 7/22) and noticed that even though etree shows 27 leaches, my window wasn't showing any seeders or leachers. I went to the etree page & opened up the window & it showed I was in red (which I believe means I'm foirewalled) and showed people moving incredibly slow.

can anyone give me a heads up on how to disable or get around the firewall

as you can tell by this idiocy, I don't know shit about computers & such so any idiot proof instructions or advice would be appreciated.

you need to set your router up to forward the ports used by the bittorrent program. http://www.portforward.com/ provides some good instructions/guidelines.

the bt.etree website will always show your own IP in red, regardless of whether or not you are firewalled.  however, from your description, it sounds like you are having trouble connecting to others, so it might be a firewall issue.  but the red IP address is not an indication one way or the other.
