I bit the bullet and bought an R09 and 4GB SD Card tonight (thanks to RokPunk and newegg.com), and after extensively reading the 2 main threads concerning the R09 I have a few questions:
I understand the R09 can't format the card and will need to be done on a computer beforehand...can a mac do this? I know how to format cards using Windows, but can't figure out how on a mac.
Will any of the common mac editing programs (Nuendo, Spark, Audacity) open a >2GB file?
Has anyone used an R09 with a mac yet?
Thanks (and +Ts) in advance...

I have been using a mac with an R09 and Transcend Ultra Speed 4GB Secure Digital (SD).
When i first got my cards and inserted them, they worked fine and i have since recorded and
deleted a few shows. I did not try to format the cards on the R09, just delete the files after transfer.
I did sucessfully format the cards running windows in Virtual PC on my mac. I wonder how long
i can just record and delete files without a format?
I too would be interested in a way to format the cards just using mac software, but can always get
them formatted on my daughters PC or Virtual PC (last resort)
As far as softwares.....i have only used DSP Quattro X opening 24 bit files over 2 gigs.
I'm sure that others way work as well.

Thanks for the input, +T
I completely forgot about Virtual PC, just installed it on my iMac, should be good to go. I've got Bootcamp set up on my Mac Book, so I'm covered for card formatting.

according to edirol, firmware 1.4 will be out within the next 2 months and will have full support for 4GB SD.

Nice, now I only need to buy DSP Quattro. Don't trust Audacity completely when it comes to splitting tracks and if you can use 4gb SD-cards already where the recordings continues smoothly past the 2gb "limit" there's no biggie having to format the card on my iBook first.

I'm just worried that a new firmware could introduce a non seamless 2 GB split, or no split at all (like the R1).

That's great. The one thing I do wish they'd do w/ v1.4 is put some kind of a peak-hold on the meters. A small gripe, sure, since it has a very visible peak light but I'd like one all the same.

Yeah, me too. I'm keeping a copy of 1.3 in case that happens & hopefully it'll be able to revert back to 1.3. Actually I'll just let someone else try it out first. ;)

Yeah, for now, it ain't broke, so I'm not fixing it. I too popped the card into the player, and it was recognized instantly. I recorded Ray Lamontagne and Guster last night, and it worked flawlessly. I love this thing! I'm not a Mac user, but I'm not a Mac hater either. Just adding another "yeah, it's possible to insert a Transcend 4GB card and have it ready to go out of the box without a format."
Gotta say it again, I love my R09!!

many of us have been able to record 4gb, 4 hr, 24/48 wavs on the transcend with no splits at all by the r09
