Can any one tell me how many inches is 20 cm and if it is 20cm from the inside of the cap or the out side of the cap.

It's about 7 7/8 inches. Easy approximation - remember that a 12" ruler measures about 30.5mm. Use 30mm and do the rough math in your head.
Separation measurements should really be to the diaphram of the mic. For small diameter mics, the pattern marking is often directly over the diaphram location.
