Post by: smottrill on August 18, 2006, 09:19:11 PM
I have been reading and searching for about 4 hours today and basically I am from UK and postage of $40 is a bit to expensive from www.soundproffesionals.com

I found this microphone on ebay..would this do the job..is the spec ok..would be used for small intimate standing heavy metal and hip hop gigs..

Many thanks..please dont bite my head off as I am a complete newb

Simply put, I suspect this will brickwall like crazy if you were to use it on a heavy metal band or loud hip hop group. It's designed for speech not amplified music.

Welcome to the board and +T for putting in 4 hrs of research before your first post.

Honestly, I suggest you save your quid for a while and get something you're going to like.

Being Canadian, I know what it's like to get hosed on shipping/customs on items from the US. If it's something I really want, I either have it delivered to a friend in the US and have them send it to me here (yes I'm paying twice for shipping but it still works out cheaper than having the original seller ship it to me) or, I suck it up and wait until I have the coin to cover the shipping.

That's probably not the answer you wanted to hear, though.

Also, the Yard Sale here at ts.com is good place to find stuff. Shipping to the UK is entirely up to the individual seller, of course, but I don't think anyone here is looking to make a profit on shipping so you've got that on your side.

My Cardioid mics would do nicely I can sell you a pair for $100+$27 to the UK they are very nice sounding and will not take you too far over your budget. I also have a nice MD recorder but its is not a HIMD just a regular sonly md it only has a line input so you would need a battery box I am selling the MD for $45.00 and I sell battery boxes to T.S members for $35.00.
These prices are only for T.S members pm me if your interested.

I had the pleasure of borrowing a pair of Chris's cards (and a batt box) and they are very nice mic's imo.  He is a very active member of this community and he values the community opinion of himself and his products.  Many of us find that purchasing a product from one of our own is a very safe and wise investment because we "self police" one another here.  Chris is a good guy besides all of that, and I'm sure he treats all of his customers fairly, but comming to him through this community is a little extra gurantee that you will get his best product, price, and service.  Plus, when you go to upgrade and want to sell the mics, this will be a good place to do that because we all know his products and where to go if we need them serviced.
