Title: How close is too close?
Post by: Dutchman1101 on August 22, 2006, 12:34:57 PM
I got tickets today to WSP in Ames on 10/24 at the Stephens Auditorium. I got Row 9 seats 1 and 2. Is that too close? I have only taped FOB once in my short taping career and don't really know. Here is the seating chart:

they are sweet seats.  be careful with the full bodies up front, you may have complainer in your section.
just don't be afraid to tilt the shockmounts up and point at stacks!

Yep those look like they could be in the sweetspot- and thats were you want to be.What mic pattern do you normally run(ortf,din,nos,x-y,etc?) I would suggest either ortf or din at that distance.

Not too close, IMO.  But I don't think I'd say sweet spot since they're almost assuredly well off-center.  Most seating layouts have the seat numbers starting on the far left or far right of the section.  Still, should make for a nice recording!

sweet spot for sure.  if possible you might want to beg some people in the center of the section if they want to trade seats with you.  Offer them a copy of the show gratis.  Seats 1 and 2 are defintiely off center.

Run the CK61s for that location.  They'll sound schweeet.

That's what I was thinking too. I'll probably do ORTF.
