Title: Behringer C-2 Mics
Post by: ldseeya on August 27, 2006, 04:43:06 PM
Has anyone used these mics for live show recordings.  They are cardioids and only $50 for a matched pair.

It's a nice package...(T-bar, Clips, Screens) and everything seems nicely made - but the mics are bit thin sounding...but to be fair I've only used them in somewhat comprimised situations...(against a wall/rattling metal roof/) - So further testing is necessary...but so far they sound a bit "electret-ish"

A bit too close to the wall...

I tried them.  I couldn't resist at that price.  I just wanted to see what was inside :).

You're right.  They sound quite thin.

I think one is better off with the Samson C02 aka Superlux. for $60-100 on here, depending on who is selling.

Any ideas for any mods for the C2?   ;)

Any other capsules that might fit those threads?

I don't think so.  I think the limitation is probably the capsules.

FYI: the capsules are electret, and look a lot like Transsound (TSB), but could be any maker.  These capsules are OK, but probably the Samson/Superlux or Studio Projects are better.  There is a single impedance converter (SN5457 N channel JFET) and a single transistor line driver.

Just ran across these and I must for $50 a matched pair looks tempting just to mess around with... But are these Cards or Hypers? It says they are cards, but on the caps it looks like they are hypers. If they were hypers I would get them. Damm $50 for a Macthed pair, stand adapters, windscreens, stereo-bar and transport case sounds like good deal even if they sound crappy. If your on a tight budget I'm not sure why you wouldn't at least try these.

I've done some more testing with these and *do not* recommend.

They sound "OK" at first, but are very fatiguing if you listen for a while.  The highs in particular are scratchy and hyped.
