Title: Replacing D7 with either Microtrack or R-9 -- advice sought!
Post by: lbgspam on August 29, 2006, 09:31:18 PM
Hi,

I am looking to replace my old and dead D-7 with a new memory based recording device. I have read a ton here about the Microtrack and the R-9.   I use AKG C-1000s for taping so I don't care about phantom power.  I don't think I care about digita I/o as I would be using it with my mics and then just taking the memory card and uploading it to my computer.  In all my years of taping I never have used anothers feed at a show, but would either use my equipment or just get a copy after the show.

Therefore, could someone direct me to a definitive answer on the following:

1. Which of the two units has a better mic input?
2. Which of the two units has a better a->d converter?

Thanks!

well, many of us have said that in the sample provided from the comp, the v3 AD is right along the r-09's AD

w/ the MT's track record alone at this point, id go w/ an r-09, plus you can get 4GB SD cards just as easily as CF cards so.....

at this point, id go r-09 if it were up to me, but i THINK that the r-09 can only handle 24/44.1k, if you want to go higher than that, the MT may be your best route, hell, i own a SD 722 and run 24/44.1k anymore

Thanks for your responses!

I don't think I would use anything other than 16bit/44.1
I have never played with my recording other than fade-in and fade-out.

I don't understand. What is v3 AD?

The V3 is a mic preamp/A->D converter.   If you have no plans to upgrade mics and are happy with powering the C1000s with 9v batteries, the Edirol R-09 seems like a logical choice.

So the unit in the R-09 is the same quality as the V3?  which is better than the one in the microtrack?

Thanks again!

Hmm, I read elsewhere here now the thread that says the R-9 is as good as the v3 (or hard to discern a difference) as you said....

Sounds like a plus vote for the R-9

But, I cant find a v3 to microtrack comparison.

Thanks for the responses!  I don't want to spend that much money on something I will use maybe 1-2x a year :)
I don't tape much anymore.

The Oade box I assume would add a lot more $ to the purchase? I would like to keep the cost under ~$500 total if possible on something that will give me decent recording ability for the occassional live show I tape (I also never stealth thus the AKG C1000s).

Simple answer: Go to more shows to justify the cost.  ???

You guys are too funny. :D

I just want to replace my old old setup of AKGC1000s->D7 which provided a good enough quality sound for me with some sort of  AKGC1000s->tapeless recorder .

What would provide the best sound for the buck and the least amount of stuff to haul around :) ?

AKGC1000s->Microtrack
AKGC1000s->R-09
AKGC1000s -> Micpre & A/d ->iriver h120

Thanks!

i love my iriver but with no need for digi in, i would go with the r 09. it seems to be the best analog in bit bucket for the $$ right now.

Thanks! I found it for $339 delivered just now.  Cheaper than my D7 was originally :)

Thanks again to everyone who helped me.  I just bought the R-09 from the place I listed above! :)
Now to figure out which flash card is best (the transcend seems not so great 4gb)... also a new mic stand that is very small and veyr lightweight (current one is just so  big and heavy I can't stand it).
