Title: So, how's rockbox working with the H3xx?
Post by: George on September 01, 2006, 08:07:54 PM
I just purchased one on ebay to replace my njb3.  If there's a thread elsewhere that details rockbox+the H3xx, let me know.  Thanks!

I've just done the same thing gloco. I got one to serve as a backup for my Microtrack and to do double duty as an mp3 player. Though I haven't used it for recording yet Rockbox looks like it should work out well. Between the latest build and the Recording Enhancements Pack I'm quite pleased with how it operates for recording. It's pretty simple, has a nice Auto Gain Control and large customizable VU meters. Another nice thing about Rockbox is that you can still boot the iRiver firmware if you just want to use it as a player.

Check out www.rockbox.org and www.misticriver.net , particularly the forums,  for all the info you may need. I use KOSH's experimental Rockbox build myself. You can find a lot of info on it at Misticriver.

The audio chip used is the same as in the h1x0 series, so apart from not having digital, it works the same. You do get a color screen and usbotg (if you didn't buy the US version). Note that usbotg is not (yet) supported in rockbox so you need to use the dual-boot to go into the original iriver firmware.

fyi, I have an h340 ;)

Just a quick update.  I installed rockbox and a bunch of wps's...its really neat!  The only that has driven me nuts on two occasions is when I accidently set the colors too dark and selected a dark theme (explosion) and couldn't see anything on the screen!  I had to sit down with my H140 side by side to go thru the menu and select a different theme.  Otherwise, the h320 sounds great but I've found it to be a bit of a pita due to all the extra options for the color lcd.

Does the H3xx have a remote that works for recording similar to the H1xx?

I don't think they have a remote but I'm pretty sure (~95%) you can actually use the h1x0 remote with 'em.

I just picked up an h320.  Does anyone have any suggestions about which build to use?  Thanks in advance.

I've been happy with KOSH's Experimental Build.

I always use latest CVS build. Most of what once was the REP is present in standard rockbox nowadays.

Note that 'experimental' builds are not supported by the rockbox devs, but do have a separate section on the rockbox forum. Expect recording support to be bad as most experimental build usres/maintainers focus on other things than recording.
