Title: Whats the deal with CALREC mics?
Post by: Roving Sign on September 05, 2006, 01:24:41 AM
I see these on ebay from time to time...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7415229917

They always seem to bring some cash...as do their preamps and such...

Good stuff??

...they seem be in a different business now...

Check out The Trinity Session by Cowboy Junkies if you want to hear what can be done with a Calrec and proper placement. It's good stuff.

I have used them from time to time, they are good mic's for the price when new they were very expensive. They are the poor mans Neumann. They also make some nice mic preamps but they are very rare.

Their main claim to fame is the "ambisonic mic", four subcard elements arranged in a tetrahedral pattern.
