I'm currently using the AT933's and 853 caps (via a size adapter (http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/AT-ADAPT)) for my stealth set-up but am looking for something a bit smaller, while keeping the convenience of switchable capsules. Has anyone compared sound/flavor between the 853 (http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/AT853C-ELE) and 943 (http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/AT-P12102) (slimline) cap series? Pros or Cons? Sound Pro's has the 943 caps at a few $ more than the 853 caps, but does that necessarily mean better? Additionally, does anyone know if the 943 caps will fit on the 933 bodies? Thanks all.

I think the sound is very comparable and of good quality compared to the 853's. Its a great setup.
The 943 caps will work on the 933 bodies.

from what I have gathered it seems the 853's have a flatter frequency responce.

My opinion: The AT853 sound a bit nicer, but AT943 or whatever are still OK. If you can find the AT853 caps for cheaper than $45 each, buy them, otherwise get the 943 caps for $60 (Soundpro's prices). Oh yeah, I *think* you get the windscreens with the 943 caps, which is nice. Oh, it goes without saying you should collect all the patterns :).

FWIW, I'll throw in some more "useless" information...
As Sanjay said, the 943 capsules WILL work on the 933 bodies. I talked to Chris at Sound Pros about the differences... obviously, the 943s are the "updated" successor to the 933s. As I understand it, here are the differences between the 943s and the 933s:
- the 943s have a 'groove' on the body, for the mic clip to fit into
- the 943s have the capsules that are the same size as the mic body's diameter (but as mentioned, these will work on 933 bodies)
Chris added that he did not know if the 'electronics' (FET) had been changed in the 943s.

thanks all. T's around.
anymore info on 853 caps vs. the 933/943 series?
