Anybody have any experience with these? The newest issue of TapeOp reviewed the new MXL 2010 and they really liked it and the switchable patterns option sounds pretty cool. MSRP is $200 per mic, but street is more like $150.

Featuring Class A FET circuitry, the new 2010 is a pressure gradient condenser microphone with a large 25 mm (1-inch) gold sputtered diaphragm that delivers a wide dynamic range with extremely low noise. As a multi-pattern instrument with omni, cardioid, and figure 8 polar patterns, the 2010 is the right tool for the job when it comes to versatility. With a sweet and silky transparent sound quality, the new 2010 is equally at home when being used to record vocals or acoustic instruments. Internally wired with Mogami cable, the MXL 2010 features a -10 dB attenuation switch that enables the microphone to better handle high sound pressure levels - making it an excellent choice for overhead drum or guitar amp miking applications. Additionally, the 2010 incorporates selectable low frequency roll-off capability to compensate for proximity effect or to eliminate wind noise and similar acoustic anomalies.

One important thing to keep in mind is that ANYONE can write a review for TapeOp. All you have to do is submit one to them.
Does that mean this is a bad mic? Not necessarily - it's just something you want to keep in mind when reading their reviews...

the mxl2003 is supposed to be a real easy mic to mod and they supposedly really need it. I'm not sure about this one. From what I understand the capsul for most mxl's are from 797 in China, and the studio projects mics use the same one. In a discussion I read somewhere about modding a SP B1 it was said that the electronics are pretty good and not much improvement can easily be had. It was then suggested that if the person really wanted to mod a mic they should look at the mxl2003. So, I got from that, that for a tiny bit more money, a b1 is better than a 2003. My logic tells me that you would be better with a b3 (sp multipattern) than the mxl but you never know untill you use and listen to them. I have the c-1's (card ld's) from sp and I am very happy with them for up close stuff. I really don't care for any LD mics when used from the section though.
