Title: digital input on edirol r-09
Post by: panther65 on September 13, 2006, 12:20:51 PM
I have just purchased the edirol r-09 and cmc-08 mics. I know that the 09 has no digital input, but is there any way to modify the deck for digital in? I also have the complete PDAudio system with core sound cardiods, but the setup certainly isn't foolproof-I like the ease of use of the edirol setup. Would the Mike 2496 hooked up to the edirol provide a digital input.
If not, should I keep the Mike2496 to use a mike preamp for the edirol, which sounds a little noisy.

The advantage of the R-09 is small and simple.  Suggest keeping your system as such with maybe needing ONLY a small long running external preamplifier for lowest noise requirements.  Evolving review of the R-09 at: www.sonicstudios.com/r-09revw.htm (http://www.sonicstudios.com/r-09revw.htm)

I've had great luck running mics directly into the R09:

- lav mics > battery box > R09.  Any mic, AT853, Sennheiser MKE2, or whatever
- CK91/93 > self-made actives > R09
- AT822 > self made box > R09

All of these work great.  Under any amplified music setting there should be plenty of level to use the internal "mic" "lo sens" settings.

My latest project is to run my Beyerdynamic MC930 into the R09.  I'm going to try powering the mics with 18V (two 9V batteries in series).  I'll post here if it works :).

See sig below...

Sound Devices MP-2>R-09  :) ;) ;D

Edit to add:

I sold my Mic2496/PDAudio setup in favor of this.  Mic2496 is not a good match for R-09.
