Hello all. I am a newbie to taping. After reading the suggestions I received from another post, I sold my Sony MZ-M100 Hi-MD recorder and purchased an Edirol R-09. I will be putting this to use hopefully by tomorrow evening. I need help with which settings I should use --everything from sensitivity, to bit rate, etc. Also where do I plug in the preamp and mic? Into the mic slot or the line in?
Your help is greatly appreciated.

What other equipment are you using with the R-09? This will determine how to get your R-09 set up.

I purchased the Church-Audio STC-9000 stereo cardioid microphone system with preamp to run with the Edirol R-09.

What are you planning on taping?
Generally, you want to plug the mics into the preamp, and plug preamp into the LINE Input on the R-09.
As for bitrate type settings, it depends on what your goal is, and what you're after. If you only have a 2 GB memory card, but you want to tape 2.5 hours or more at a single show, you will need to run at 16-bit. However, if you only need to record for 1 hour 50 minutes or less and have a 2 GB memory card, then you can go with the 24-bit setting.
If you have a 4 GB memory card, then you can get almost 4 hours at 24-bit, so it's a no brainer t run at 24-bit in this case (you'd likely go with 24-bit in this situation, unless you don't want to bother with dithering/resampling in post).
Several people have mentioned that using the "AGC" on the R-09 is not a good idea. So you should probably turn that switch to the "OFF" position.

Me too! I'm HOPING it arrives tomorrow. Canada Post said it was expected to arrive today, but it didn't. :(

Thanks for your help. I actually have just a 2GB memory card. I plan on purchasing another rather than go with the 4GB card. Off hand do you know if the show will erase if I take it out of the edirol? I haven't had the chance to read the manual just yet.
The concerts I am planning on taping will be mostly rock/alternative type. They will definitely be loud with ripping guitars.
Thanks for your help and any additional help you could give.

No, removing the memory card from the recorder will not erase the show
