I'm thinking of upgrading my mics from sp cmc-8s to the akg blue line series with the active cable for low profile taping. Can the ck91,92,93 capsules be mounted in a hat somehow?
-
they fit nicely in a Kangol...they are a bit heavier than I like so order a hat one size smaller than you need...
-
you need to make the homebrew actives of buy the akg actives
the akg actives most people seem to think are problemantic (at least the few people i talked to about them)
-
Thanks guys for the advice. Would the problems that people are talking about with the 391/MK90/3H98(active cables) setup be avoided with the proper stress relief that sanjay has suggested? ie gaffer tape at the terminations.

The capsules are small so they would theoritically be easy to stealth, but the AKG active cables for this line are so expensive that it is not really worth the money investing in this setup if you just want to stealth. You would be better served by getting dpa 4060 or 4061 mics and stealthing with those. The dpa sound better, are smaller, and would probably cost about the same amount as ck9x + AKG actives.

Thanks Jlykos. Your advice is welcome indeed. I have the Tascam HD-P2 which accepts XLR phantom power. How would you suggest I power these mics?
-
I've been using these c 577 WR omni's to keep with that AKG sound, these accept phantom power: http://www.akg.com/products/powerslave,mynodeid,15,id,283,pid,283,_language,EN.html (http://www.akg.com/products/powerslave,mynodeid,15,id,283,pid,283,_language,EN.html)

also, what about the ck31/32/33's ???
these are small capsules w/ out a body, or do they have a body connected like your normal actives ??? still a VERY small solution
-
From what I've read, these capsules require the lm3 cable which I think is discontinued. Would the JK Labs box be a solution to interface with any/all of the AKG capsules?

these use the HM 1000 cable...I am not thrilled with the specs. on those caps...maybe the ck33 would suit our needs...I'm going for the ck 47's (not for stealthing)...
